Prayer
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer [that is made] in this place,” (II Chronicles 7:14-15).
Prayer is a very important element in every religion. It is a means by which humans communicate with their supernatural being. Though all religions teach differently on the subject of prayer, each continue to encourage worshipers to talk to their god.
In Christian religion, God created human being to worship, seek and honor him. As a Christian myself, and a minister of the gospel, I take keen interest in the subject of prayers. It is very easy to miss represent the understanding of prayer and to some extent, even limit its magnitude and impact to words an individual, community, nation and the whole world.
In the Christian context, we are suppose to be in communion with God at all times. This means, in our hearts, mind and thoughts, God needs to be acknowledged at every instant; be it in poverty or riches, prison or outside prison. If you are crazy for God like I am, then you have got to pray everywhere: in the kitchen, bathroom, while walking on the road, at the church …e.t.c. One of my very special places of prayer is on high way while driving. My car is a mini Church, an alter, or a worship center. Everyone who got into my car can testify that no any other music is allowed in my car except worship or sermon CDs.
There are several principles for us to understand when we plan to pray. First and far most, we need to understand that Jesus has already grant us the access to the throne room of God by paying for our transgression. This means, we have free “pass” to the throne room of our Papa God. In other words, we are only coming before God on His terms. Hence, when prayer is within the terms of God, one can rest assured that the answer is on the way.
God’s requirements in the above scripture include: humbling oneself, earnestly seeking the face of God, and repenting from one’s sins. Said other way, the Lord is saying that, if we really want Him to hear us, forgive our sin and heal our land, then we ought to become humble individuals, forsake our wicked ways, and seek him for who he really is, God.
May the Lord bless you… watch out for more on prayers
